The Importance of Gutter Cleaning

What is it?

A Gutter is a shallow like trough fixed to the edge of a roof. The purpose of a gutter is to catch rainwater from the roof area and drain it into the stormwater pipes.

Why do we need to clean our gutters?

Cleaning your gutters is necessary to prevent blockages. When your gutters become blocked with debris, leaves, or dirt, water risks overflowing and travelling into your home.

Is it harmful?

When blockages are in gutters and water is travelling in locations of the home. It can cause growth of mould. Mould is harmful to the human body and should be prevented however possible.

How often should I clean my gutters to prevent blockages?

We recommend cleaning your gutters 2-3 times a year, typically in autumn or spring. This can change depending on your home’s location. If you live in an area with a lot of surrounding trees – it would be recommended that you clean your gutters every 2-3 months.

How long does it usually take to clean gutters?

On a standard size home, gutters that are cleaned regularly can take around 4-8 hours to clean.
This depends on how much leaf/debris build up over time but generally around 1 day.

Can clogged gutters lead to roof damage?

The answer is yes. If gutters are clogged the weight of the debris can sometimes cause the gutter to bend, sag and pull away from the roofline. This may result in the need to replace elements of your roof including the gutters.
